Do I need to be fluent in English?
Yes , English is a must. Kenya’s main languages are Kiswahil and English. However, there are 42 tribal languages. During your stay, you will pick up greetings and frequently used words of the people of Rombo.
Examples- Hello -- Jambo (Kiswahili)
Goodbye -- Kwaheri (Kiswahili)
Thank you -- Ashe (Kimaasai)
Goodbye -- Sere (Kimaasai)
How is security in the area?
Kenya is one of the safest countries in East Africa. It is a home away from home. However, cities are always a dangerous place and bear in mind that people are extremely poor, so, it is not recommended to carry large sums of money while walking around anywhere in Kenya. We highly recommend that you do not venture into the bush without a trusted guide, which we will be happy to provide.
Safety Issues
Living in an unfamiliar environment with limited understanding of culture, language and being taken as well-off, can put you at risk. There is real poverty in Kenya and you are likely to be more fortunate than the locals of Rombo.
