HEALTH CARE:
It is our dream to have clinics spread throughout the district. At present we have a health care centre at Rombo Catholic Mission which employs a clinical officer and 5 nurses. Over the last 5 years we successfully fitted out two buildings, which were standing empty, with all the necessary equipment of a clinic.
Over 300 people come through the doors of Maili Tatu clinic and over 150 people at Njukini in the first month of opening.
Both clinics were given to the Ministry of Health, they provide the nurses along with all medications. Since they are government clinics they provide very low cost medications to the people and free treatment of Malaria, typhoid and TB. We hope to be able to build at least 2 more clinics over the next 5 years in other remote areas to assist the local people and prevent pregnant women having to travel 30 – 40 km when going through a difficult labour.
